It is a vital for Biodiesel manufacturer to follow the international standard issue by certified organistaions. For Biodiesel, there are two common international standards. The most reliable standard is issued by the European Commitee for Standardization (Europäische Kommitee für Normung) CEN namely EN 14214. The standard apply only to Biodiesel, which is which distinguished from the straight vegetable oils (SVO) or waste vegetable oils (WVO) used as fuels in some modified diesel vehicles.

The standard issue by the CEN is just a guidelines for the indutry player. As we see in the table above, there are some criteria that can be tolerated. Therefore in Europe country like Austria,Germany, France and Italy , they have their own standard of biodiesel which based on the European Standard.

Current World Biodiesel Standard

The Biodiesel Manufacturer should try their best to meet the standard. If they wish to penetrate the European Market, the EN 14214 should be obeyed.

Malaysian Biodiesel Manufacturer as by now produce the methyl easter palm oil in the homeland and export it to the buyer from Europe. In Europe the buyer will process it until it meets the EN standard.

MPOB should accelerate their R&D department to publish the specifications that suit the international standard.
