PM: Focus on renewable palm biofuel

KUALA LUMPUR: The country’s biotechnology industry could take advantage of the global concern over food and energy security by focusing on developing new and economically viable renewable fuel from palm oil.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the industry should leverage on Malaysia’s natural strengths like focusing on the palm oil industry.
“Innovative bio-refineries is a strategic area which will be looked at,” he told reporters at the third meeting of the Biotech International Advisory Panel here yesterday.

Biomass to Biodiesel (A Sundiesel initiative)

Before I begin let us revise some common terms again.
Biomass: refers to living and recently dead biological material (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biological_material) that can be used as fuel or for industrial production. Most commonly, biomass refers to plant matter grown to generate electricity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electricity) or produce biofuel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biofuel), but it also includes plant or animal matter used for production of fibers, chemicals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical) or heat. Biomass may also include biodegradable wastes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodegradable_waste) that can be burnt as fuel. It excludes organic material (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organic_material) which has been transformed by geological processes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metamorphism) into substances such as coal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal) or petroleum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum).
Let us begin. Credit to Choren Industries GmbH for the informations that they provide in the offical website of the company. What I like about Germans is their willingness to share knowledge and infromation that they possesed for the sake of the humanity.
Choren is the pioneer and lead market player of the state of the art Biomass to Biodiesel technology. The company had invented a technology that can convert Biomass to Biodiesel using the so call Carbo V Process.
The Carbo-V Process is a three-stage gasification process involving the following sub-processes:

    low temperature gasification,
    high temperature gasification and
    endothermic entrained bed gasification.

Oil price hike has forced us to cut everything down. Many of us turn to a lot of alternative to reduce the consumption of fuel everyday. Some of them even install the NGV kit in their vehicles. But not to to forget. NGV is only suitable for car that used petroleum as fuel.
How about diesel powered vehicles? Let me introduce a Fuelpod. Fuelpod is home biodiesel processor that cost about RM 7000 to RM 22500. The device can produce from 40 to 200 litres biodiesel per day. What you need are waste or new vegetable oil (NVO), methanol and coustic soda powder.
Vegetable Oil : RM 0 for (WV0) and RM 2.6 / kg for (NVO)
Methanol : RM 1 / kg
Caustic Soda : RM 0.8 / kg
Total for a kg (appx 1 litre) raw material need is about RM 1.8 provided that we use WVO.

This guy has dump 1.6bn pound for the development of the renewable energy technology initiatives.
